Michael
Balsley -
Michael has appeared on the PRT main stage
in Death of a Salesman, directed by Elina de Santos. His Regional
theater credits include The Lion in Winter (Portland Stage) and
Richard Greenberg'sTake Me Out (Repretory Theater of St. Louis/
Hartford Stage Co / TheaterWorks), for which he received a Kevin
Kline Award nomination as Best Supporting Actor. New York Off-Broadway
theater credits include NY premiers of Naomi Wallace's In the
Heart of America (Rising Circle) and Jovanka Bach's Name Day
(Barrow Group), The Heiress (Roundtable Ensemble). Off-Off Broadway
credits (greatly edited to protect the actor's reputation) include
The Feigned Courtesans (New York Classical), One Flea Spare (Columbia
Stages), workshop productions of Miss Julie and Stop/Kiss (Studio
Tisch) and the workshop production of Susan Sontag's Parcifal
(Hotel Savant/Public). Film credits include The War Within (2005).
And commercials pop up every now and again.
Michael spent 2000-2005 living and studying
in New York City, where he received his MFA in Acting from New
York University's Graduate Acting Program in 2003. Some favorite
productions included Henry IV pt. 1 (Henry), Measure For Measure
(Angelo), Playboy of the West Indies (Mac), Carlos Gozzi's The
Serpent Woman (Faruscad). He co-produced the 2003 Freeplay Festival
at NYU, which was a weeklong repertory of six productions per
day, some published but mostly original works, all generated
and performed by the class. He has studied in NYC with Ron Van
Lieu, Deborah Hecht (speech), Chris Bayes (clown), Jim Calder
(movement/kinetics), and Zelda Fitchandler; in LA, Lesly Kahn.
He has interned and later served as company manager of New York
Stage and Film.
Michael is a member of The Actor's Center
and The LARK Play Development Company in New York. In LA, he
is a new member of Pacific Resident Theatre Company. Michael
